(Placement for Math 5/4 - 7/6)
1. Parents, read these instructions:

If the last math course your student took was by Saxon Math, see this article: Placement for Saxon Math Students

A parent or teacher should supervise the test.

Time Limit: This is a three-page test. Allow the student no more than one hour for each page.

Third - Fifth Graders: Begin with page 1. If the student misses 4 or fewer, take page 2 the next day or at least a few hours later.

Sixth Grade & Up: Begin with page 2. If the student misses 5 or more on page 2, give page 1 the next day.

Allow the student to work until he/she cannot answer 3 or more questions in a row.

No calculator and no help from a parent or teacher.

The student should show all work on a separate piece of paper. Look over the student's work carefully when grading the test.
2. Print the Test: Placement Test for 4-8th Grades
3. Use the Answer Key at the end of the Placement Test to grade it.
4. Results & Placement Guide:
Missed 4 or fewer from PAGE 1 (1-20) AND 4 or fewer from PAGE 2 (21-40):
Take DIVE + Saxon 7/6, Fourth Edition
If they missed 4 or fewer from QUESTIONS 1–20:
Take DIVE + Saxon 6/5, Third Edition
If they missed 5 or more from QUESTIONS 1-20:

Struggling or Reluctant Fourth Grader: Consider Saxon 3 or go very slowly through Saxon 5/4, Third Edition and use the Timed Method.

Average to Accelerated Fourth Grader: Begin Saxon 5/4, Third Edition

Below Average Fourth Grader: Take Saxon Math 3 or go very slowly through Saxon 5/4, Third Edition and use the Timed Method.

Third Grade or Below: Take the PLACEMENT TEST for K-3
