Student Completed Algebra 1 - No Geometry
For students who did not use Saxon or Shormann for Algebra 1
Caution: The recommendation below is only for truly Gifted Math students. For all other students it will be very difficult and take 2+ years to complete it, which is the same amount of time as taking Algebra 1 and 2. And, retaking Algebra 1 with Shormann followed by Algebra 2, will be much faster and easier. Therefore, if this is not a GIFTED Math student, see: Placement
GIFTED MATH STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT COMPLETED ½+ GEOMETRY
The first 25 lessons of Shormann Algebra 2 review all the geometry taught in Shormann Algebra 1. Therefore, a truly GIFTED math student can learn the geometry concepts in the review lessons of Shormann Algebra 2.
However, because they are review, these lessons are taught at a much faster pace and assume the student has learned it before. To fill this gap, students use the Lesson Reference chart, linked under each video lecture, to view the PDF of the lesson from Algebra 1.
While a gifted math student can fill their gaps this way, it will take longer to complete these review lessons and up to 3 semesters to complete the course. That’s okay because they will earn 2 full credits: 1 Geometry and 1 Algebra 1. Be sure to use the Timed Method and follow the course instructions, they will not become frustrated or overwhelmed.
To confirm your GIFTED math student is ready for this course, they must earn an 85+ on this placement test: Algebra 2 Placement Test
If my student has not had geometry, but successfully completes Shormann Algebra 2, how do I list the credits on a transcript?
Upon completion of Shormann Algebra 2 with Integrated Geometry, the student has earned 1 full credit of Geometry and 1 full credit of Algebra 2. The credits should be listed as follows:
Algebra 2 1 Credit
Geometry 1 Credit
Will Shormann Algebra 2 be too hard?
The first 25 lessons include review from Shormann Algebra 1. However, because they are review, these lessons are taught at a much faster pace and assume the student has learned it before. Students who have not learned it before will need to use the Lesson Reference chart to go back and view the lessons from Algebra 1. A gifted student can do this, but other students will struggle with this and often become frustrated and overwhelmed.
However, if this is truly a gifted math student who earns an 85+ on the Algebra 2 placement test (linked above), who uses the Timed Method and follows the course instructions carefully, they should successfully complete Shormann Algebra 2. However, because they are earning 2 math credits (1 Geometry and 1 Algebra 2), it may take up to two years to complete the course, which is the same amount of time it would take to re-take Algebra 1 using Shormann Math followed by Algebra 2. If you have any reservations, have the student take Shormann Algebra 1. For details about this option, see: Placement for Shormann Algebra 1.
