Instructions for 4th - 8th Grade Placement Test

                  (Placement for Math 5/4 - Pre-Algebra)

1. Parents, Read this first:

 - If the last math course your student took was by Saxon Math, see this article: Placement for Saxon Math students.

 - A parent or teacher should supervise the test.

 - Time Limit: This is a three-page test. Allow the student one hour for each page.

- Do not give the entire test in one sitting. Begin with page 2. If the student misses 4 or fewer, go on to page 3 the next day. If the student misses 5 or more on page 2, give page 1 the next day. If you do not want to give the test over 2 days, at least allow several hours between the 2 pages.

 - Allow the student to work until he/she cannot answer 3 or more questions in a row.

 - No calculator and no help from a parent or teacher.

 - The student should show all work on a separate piece of paper.
