Geometry includes all topics in a high school geometry course, including perspective, space, and dimension associated with practical and axiomatic geometry. Students learn how to apply and calculate measurements of lengths, heights, circumference, areas, and volumes. Geometry introduces trigonometry and allows students to work with transformations. Students will use logic to create proofs and constructions and will work with key geometry theorems and proofs.
Dr. Shormann only recommends this course if a student is not going to go on to our Advanced Math course. Otherwise this course is redundant. All the geometry taught in this text is taught in Saxon Algebra 2 (2nd or 3rd edition) and Saxon Advanced Math (2nd edition). This book was written by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt not John Saxon. The integration of algebra and geometry were foundational to John Saxon's curriculum. All the countries who beat us in math and science on international exams teach algebra and geometry together. It is easier to understand and apply. Also, the PSAT, SAT, and ACT all test both geometry and algebra. Students who learn them integrated, will naturally perform better on these tests than students who do not as they will not have seen either geometry or algebra for a year.
