Shormann Calculus Placement Information & Test

Student Completed Other Precalculus
(Not Saxon or Shormann Math)

Struggling or Reluctant Math Students:

Learning Calculus requires fluency in Algebra, Geometry, and Precalculus. Since most Precalculus curricula does not include review of Algebra and Geometry, Shormann Precalculus is usually recommended for these students. This course will build mastery and fluency in the Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, and Trigonometry required to learn Calculus, while providing excellent preparation for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. It also includes a 3-6 week CLEP Precalculus prep course which earns up to 3 college credits. However, if you think your student is ready for Calculus, take the Calculus 1 Placement Test.

Good to Strong Math Students:

Students who successfully completed a Precalculus with Trigonometry course, should be ready for Shormann Calculus 1. Take the Calculus 1 Placement Test to confirm. The first 25 lessons provide review of the foundational concepts needed to successfully complete this course. A good or strong math student can fill any gaps during the first 25 lessons. However, since some of these concepts may not be review to your student, it may take more than 1 day to complete some of these lessons. Simply use the Timed Method to ensure frustration-free learning.
