SAVE TIME AND MONEY! EARN COLLEGE CREDIT BY EXAM!
Soaring tuition has many parents and students looking for alternative ways to earn college credit and avoid unbearable student loan debt. CLEP and AP Exams, which cost about $80 to earn three to eight credits, seem like a great solution. However, many students struggle with learning college-level math and science without a teacher. CLEP Professor provides that teacher!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
CLEP Professor, designed and taught by Dr. Shormann, is a three week course which bridges the gap between the high school course and the corresponding CLEP or AP Exam. Unlike other programs that only provide practice exams and books to read, Dr. Shormann actually teaches every concept step by step, significantly increasing understanding. With CLEP Professor, students can earn up to 34 college credits, saving time and money!
Take the Diagnostic Test
This test saves time by prescribing which of the twenty lessons to complete.
Watch the Video Lecture
Dr. Shormann teaches every lesson step by step on a digital blackboard that looks and sounds like a live classroom. Students work interactively, taking notes and working problems along with him. Easily pause, rewind, and fast-forward until the new concept is fully understood.
Do the Practice Problems
Following each lesson are 10-15 practice problems which reinforce understanding of the new concept.
Watch the Video Solutions
Ensuring understanding, every practice problem has a video solution that works the problem step by step. The video solution is shown after each problem, giving the student immediate feedback.
Take a Practice Exam
After completing all the prescribed lessons, the first Practice Exam is taken. Each question on the exam is referenced to the lesson the problem was taught in so students can easily relearn forgotten concepts. Continue taking the Practice Exams until a passing score is achieved.
Take the Exam
Biology is offered as a CLEP and an AP exam. The AP exam is more rigourous and universally accepted. Depending on the score, 8 credits are typically awarded. AP exams are administered once a year in the spring at your local high school (we recommend a Christian school). Contact the school in the fall to confirm test ordering dates.
CLEP Exams are multiple choice exams so they are a little easier than AP exams. While not as widely accepted as AP exams, they are accepted at over 1,500 college across the nation. CLEP exams can be scheduled anytime of year and are administered at the testing department of your local community college or university.
While there aren't any age restrictions for either exam, a goverment issued picture ID is required. Your CLEP and AP scores are stored at the College Board until you are admitted to a college and request they be sent.

Mixed feelings for AP test prep
Posted by Rachel on 6th Jul 2015
My 10th grade daughter spent 6 weeks using the Biology CLEP/AP Professor after taking the DIVE Biology course in order to prepare for the AP exam. She had worked hard and gotten an A in the Biology course, she worked hard with the Professor program, and she got a 3 on the AP exam. We were pleased with this score given the following fact. Please understand: this score reflects the fact that she skipped 1 free response question out of 8 and a few multiple choice questions b/c she didn't feel she could answer them honestly, given the wording in regard to evolutionary theory. This was a personal decision she had wrestled through and made before taking the exam. This means that she would have probably scored at least a 4 on the exam after using DIVE Bio and the CLEP/AP Professor if she'd been able to answer all the questions. I'm putting this info in my review b/c I know you want to know what score your student can expect to achieve using this program.
Now for a review of the program itself: PROs: My daughter felt that the content covered in the Professor course was in line with the questions on the AP exam, and that she was able to answer or make educated guesses for all questions. Secondly, the price for taking the DIVE Bio course and adding on the Professor course is vastly cheaper than taking an AP course online so for the cost, it's a great option if you have a hard-working student. Thirdly, getting the biology information from a Christian worldview now that the AP course and the AP exam are 25% evolution and genetics was invaluable. As always, Dr. Shormann did a great job presenting a critique of the theories and the alternative of Intelligent Design/creation.
CONS: The Professor course did not prepare my daughter well to actually take the AP exam. By this I mean that we had to look elsewhere for more recent practice exams, test-taking tips, and format information. The Professor program did provide a couple of practice exams but we found the terminology and format to be a bit older than the most recent exams found online. There was little to no information provided on how to "attack" the exam when it was handed out, and believe me, this exam is so jam-packed that you absolutely must have a plan going into it. I could barely read the practice questions in the time allotted, let alone craft an answer for them. Also, because the DIVE Bio course itself is not an AP course and therefore does not teach to the test (much appreciated!), the lingo/terminology that Dr. Shormann uses when teaching do not always mesh with the terms used on the AP exam. That caused my daughter a bit of consternation during the exam as well. She found it necessary for preparation to access the most recent AP exams online to practice with, watch a couple of online test-taking tip videos specifically for the AP Bio exam, and have her dad (who has a molecular bio bachelor's degree) help her decipher and practice the free response questions on the 2013 and 2014 exams we found.
BOTTOM LINE: Even skipping some of the questions, my daughter earned AP college credit for biology using the DIVE Bio and Professor course. Just be ready to supplement the Professor course with a lot of test-taking practice and tips from another source.
