David Shormann, Ph.D.
With degrees in science and engineering, Dr. Shormann has 25 years of experience teaching math and science from elementary through college levels. Teaching math as the language of science, a tool used to understand God and Creation, he equips and inspires students to excel.
HOW IT ALL STARTED …
My wife Karen and I began homeschooling in 1994. After finishing my Ph.D. in 1996, God called me to serve the homeschooling community by teaching college preparatory math and science classes from a Biblical foundation. I taught eight classes each day, in five different locations around the Houston-metro area, averaging 300 students per year.
However, many students struggled with learning all their lessons for the week in one day. In 2000, God answered our prayers for these students by revealing a revolutionary way to teach using digital whiteboard lectures recorded on CD-ROM. Students could now view their lectures for each lesson at home, with the added bonus of pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding the lecture. DIVE Into Math was born!
Since that time, over 100,000 families around the world have used DIVE to give their children a college preparatory math and science education.

WHAT I BELIEVE …
As a Christian and a research scientist, I believe God directs Christians to do science in Genesis 1:26-28. But I'm also a natural history researcher, and I believe a biblical framework provides us with the most rational interpretation of the past. I believe God created the world, and everything in it, in six calendar days, as described in Genesis 1, and confirmed in Exodus 20:11 and elsewhere. I believe God created man, from dust, and in His image, as described in Genesis 1, and confirmed in I Cor. 15:49 and elsewhere. I believe the covenantal and genealogical aspects of Scripture help us know the earth is thousands, not billions of years old. I believe nature confirms our recent past, and am happy to discuss earth history with those who may have doubts about a recent creation.
I believe God created different kinds of organisms, as described in Genesis 1, and confirmed in I Cor. 15:39 and elsewhere. I believe that since Creation and the Flood, life has had limited descent with modification, best described as adaptation. Science confirms this. I also believe mathematics is the language of science, and is a tool God gave us to help us unlock the mysteries of His creation.
Finally, I believe the Bible is the inerrant, inspired Word of God, that Jesus is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. I believe salvation is a free gift of God’s grace alone, through faith alone, to do good works (Ephesians 2:8-10). And through these works, God shows us that our chief end is to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever!

MY FAMILY …
Dr. Shormann and his family moved from Texas to Hawaii in 2014. David and his wife, Karen, homeschooled their two children through high school. They are actively involved in their local church and community. Exploring God's creation with their children and grandchildren is a favorite family activity. Dr. Shormann continues to write Christ-centered math and science curriculum, teach, and conduct research. In 2020, Dr. Shormann received a patent for a flow control device that mimics the humpback whale's unique pectoral fin. The design has been successfully tested on a variety of devices, including surfboard fins, hydrofoils and propellers. Dr. Shormann also enjoys filming humpback whales and other marine creations, and some of his footage appears in Riot and the Dance's *Water* (2020), and in Volume 3 of Dr. Jobe Martin's *God's Living Treasures, Amazing Animals of Alaska* (2022). In 2023, Genesis Apologetics released *Journey to Novarupta*, a film about Dr. Shormann's research expeditions to Novarupta volcano in Alaska to document evidence for biblical history.
